The War Department supervised the civil affairs of the new territory of Porto Rico (now Puerto Rico) from 1909 until 1934, when that responsibility was transferred to the Division of Territories and Island Possessions within the Department of the Interior. The Division was renamed the Office of Territories in 1950, and the governing of Puerto Rico remained there until 1971. The annual reports began publication in 1909 and were included in the Annual Report, Secretary of War through 1920.
