U.S. Congressional Serial Set Finding List: Annual Reports, American Historical Association (SI 4.1:)

The American Historical Association was first created in 1884, but in 1889 it was incorporated by act of Congress and commissioned to provide an annual report to the secretary of the Smithsonian Institution, who would then convey the report to Congress. The annual report series thus began in 1889, and in 1902 a second volume of "Writings of American History" began publication as well. (Andriot 697, Checklist 997)

* Volume 2 was scheduled to be printed as the following Serial Set volume (number-2) but was not printed as a government publication.
** These documents were distributed only in the format used by the agency and were not published as Congressional documents, despite having been assigned to Serial Set volumes.
