U.S. Congressional Serial Set Finding List: Army Register (W 3.11:, M 108.8:, D 102.9:)

The Army Register, published under the Adjutant-General's Department from 1813 onward (with scattered earlier issues), contained names of Army officers with their corresponding service records and ranks. From 1848 through 1860, a transcript of the official list, showing pay and allowances for each officer, appeared in the Congressional Serial Set, but the entire annual issues of the Register were not published in the Serial Set until 1896. When the War Department was replaced by the National Military Establishment in 1947, the Army Register was renamed for two years as the Official Army and Air Force Register. The title reverted to Army Register (with the Air Force Register becoming a separate publication) once the Department of Defense was created in 1949 and the Air Force was split out from the Army Department.
