U.S. Congressional Serial Set Finding List: Annual Reports, Civil Service Commission (CS 1.1:)

Although an earlier Civil Service Commission (previously known as Advisory Board) existed from 1871 to 1874, the Civil Service Commission in its more well-known form was created in 1883. Over time its authority was expanded, and by the time the Commission was abolished in 1979, its functions had to be transferred to two different agencies: the Office of Personnel Management and the Merit Systems Protection Board. The annual reports of the Civil Service Commission began in earnest in 1884 and included statistical tables, reports on agency training activities, legislation and executive orders relating to personnel management, and significant judicial decisions.
