Established by Public Law 89-329 in 1965, the National Advisory Council on Extension and Continuing Education was created to advise the Office of Education within the Department of Health, Education, and Welfare on policy matters regarding the administration of community service and continuing education programs. In 1980, the name of the council was changed to the National Advisory Council on Continuing Education, and it referred its advisory activities to the newly created Department of Education. A handful of the Council's early annual reports were printed in the Serial Set. (Andriot 813, NARA web site)
