U.S. Congressional Serial Set Finding List: Annual Reports, Weather Bureau (A 29.1:)

In the first half of the 19th century, the Smithsonian Institution as well as several executive departments collected meteorological data. From 1870, such work was handled by the Signal Office in the Department of War, and the information gathered was published as part of the Annual Reports, Chief Signal Officer. In 1891, however, the Weather Bureau became an official agency and was transferred to the Department of Agriculture. The annual report began in 1891 as two separate volumes: one for administrative matters (which also appeared in the Annual Reports, Secretary of Agriculture, with some variation) and one for meteorological tables. By 1902, both sections were published together, covering the fiscal year. (Andriot 21, Checklist 279)
