Established by the Adult Education Act of 1966, the National Advisory Council on Adult Education was charged with advising the Office of Education within the Department of Health, Education, and Welfare on policy matters regarding the administration of adult education programs. In 1980, the council transferred its advisory activities to the newly created Department of Education, and in 1988, its work was terminated. A handful of the Council's early annual reports were printed in the Serial Set. (Andriot 809, NARA web site)
