U.S. Congressional Serial Set Finding List: Annual Reports, Smithsonian Institution (SI 1.1:)

The Smithsonian Institution was created in 1846, founded on a bequest by the Englishman James Smithson, who left his entire property to the United States "to establish an institution for the increase and diffusion of knowledge among men." The annual report of the Smithsonian began in 1846 and continues to be published (albeit under a different title since 1965, Smithsonian Year). Beginning with 1884, the Annual Reports, National Museum (SI 3.1:) were published as part of the Smithsonian's annual report (and are listed separately in this finding list as well as here).
